Christian Ministry—Pastoring/Church Planting
Pastoring and/or Bible Teaching
Abhijeet Sasane is a pastor and is the Auxiliary Secretary for the Bible Society of India for two Indian states.
When did you trust Christ?
I was born and brought up in a God-fearing Christian family. My parents deeply loved the Lord and were prompt in their services to God as good Christians in the Methodist Church. They were always good to me and trusted me. However, during my school days I fell in with the wrong crowd. By the time I was fifteen I was severely addicted to alcohol. I felt guilty about it but continued. My parents were greatly worried about me and continued to pray for me. One day, after my standard exams, my schoolteacher invited me to her house along with other friends of mine. Everyone was discussing their future plans, but I had nothing to say. While everyone was about to leave, she asked me to stay back. When everyone had gone, she put her hand on my shoulder, looked into my eyes and said, “Son, God loves you and Jesus died for you.” This simple statement had so much impact and conviction that I broke out in tears. I decided to surrender my life to this Jesus who had become real to me.
What have been the defining moments of your Christian walk?
As a pastor of the Methodist Church in India, I have had the privilege and opportunity to serve the marginalized, deprived, underprivileged and downtrodden in society from different religions and cultures. Locally, I have also served the visually impaired, widows, orphans, sex workers, and their children. This has had a great impact on me.
Why do you want to attend the Forum?
I believe that there is always a scope to grow and learn no matter to what level one has reached. We must keep learning new tools and methodologies of evangelism and leadership to be more useful to the church at large.
What is your ministry?
As the Auxiliary Secretary of the Bible Society of India for two states, my role is extremely tedious and complex as I have to manage around 72 branches across Maharashtra and Goa. Even though I am an ordained Methodist pastor, I have an ecumenical approach and have preached in almost every denomination in the country. By God’s grace, I am recognized as a national leader not only by Christians but also by non-Christians.
What are your past leadership roles?
I have been a delegate at international gatherings and conferences where I could interact with leaders from different cultures across the globe. I have been preaching and teaching not only from the pulpit but also outside the four walls of the church building. Preaching has always been my passion. I have been involved in communicating the Gospel in the marketplace in the music and film industry, and among the corporate and the business class. Not only that, I had the privilege of representing the Christian community in India on national television channels many times. I was the Youth Director for the state of Maharashtra for six years.
Why should someone invest in your ministry?
By the grace of God, I have opportunities to take the Gospel to people groups and arenas where others have limited or no access. Polishing and training a person who is already strategically placed for evangelism would help that person to be even more fruitful.
