Adam Szabados has been the pastor of a church in Veszprém since 1999. He also has a popular blog on Christianity which has a million views every year.
When did you trust Christ?
I was brought up in the church, so I heard the Gospel from my early childhood. But it was in a Hungarian Fellowship of Evangelical Students camp that the grace of God conquered my resistance. I was 16 years old and I felt very guilty for my lifestyle. The Holy Spirit enabled me to give my entire life, will, mind, and heart to Almighty God. After that I knew from experience that Jesus is alive.
What have been the defining moments of your Christian walk?
I married my wife, Dóra, in 1996 and we decided to live in Veszprém and began to attend a church plant in the town. In 1999 I became the pastor of that church. A year later the church became an independent evangelical church. My years as a pastor of the church have been testing times for me, but also very rewarding. Times of loneliness and the burden of responsibility taught me to depend on God and about the incomprehensible covenantal love of Christ.
Why do you want to attend the Forum?
When I came to the Forum the first time in 2004, I was a pastor who was isolated in the ministry and I was surrounded by many people who were drifting away from the faith. It was a very discouraging situation. And I had no idea there were so many other Christian leaders like me who either were struggling like me or had already found a larger fellowship or a pool of resources that they could rebuild their convictions. When I came to the Forum, I was just shocked by what I experienced.
The Lord has used the Forum in my life in unexpected ways. The Forum is helpful to me in so many ways. It is a blessing to meet other Christian leaders and to just encourage one another. We have lovely fellowship at our dinner tables, where we receive mutual encouragement from one another. It has been a great blessing to be able to meet speakers and participants who have such wonderful hearts.
What is your ministry?
I pastor an evangelical church. I have been a pastor for more than 20 years. I lead the work of the Hungarian Evangelical Forum, which is a direct fruit of the European Leadership Forum. I also write for a website which communicates the truthfulness of the Gospel to Hungarians, which has turned out to be an unexpected success. I am working on a PhD now in New Testament, which involves also teaching Greek and some other subjects at a university in Budapest. I also sometimes speak at conferences and other events.
Why should someone invest in your ministry?
I would like to thank you for your generosity and the support that I received from you so that I could participate in the Forum. Thank you for your financial support. May God bless you and give you a hundredfold return in spiritual riches! The Forum is a wonderful opportunity to be in the mainstream of European evangelical thinking and networking.
“I don’t see anything in Europe that would have a more powerful effect on the continent as far as the Gospel is concerned than the European Leadership Forum.”
