Christian Ministry—Pastoring/Church Planting
Children and/or Youth
Mark Abrman is the young minister in his local church and teaches at a school for youth leaders.
When did you trust Christ?
I grew up in a Christian family. My dad was, and still is, a missionary and a pastor. My parents taught me about Jesus from as far back as I can remember. When I was six-years-old, I made the decision to accept God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
What have been the defining moments of your Christian walk?
I gave my life to Jesus at the age of six, but I rededicated my life to God at age 13. At that time I started to actually read my Bible and pray. I may this recommitment at a youth camp after I heard a sermon about how God wants to use us and be the Lord of our lives. I knew that God had saved me, but that He really wasn’t my Lord. I realized that if I want to be used by Him, I need to let Him use me and to have control of my life. After I graduated high school I went to the Word of Life Bible Institute in Hungary, planning to get my degree in economics after the two years of study. God changed my heart, though, and during my studies there I felt His calling to full time ministry. Since then I had been commissioned into the ministry, ordained, and have become the youth pastor at the local church where I live. All throughout the years I have had people who have influenced me and helped me to make the right decisions, including my parents, leaders in the church, teachers, and mentors.
Why do you want to attend the Forum?
I believe the Forum will help me learn truths about God, His character, and His works. I will be inspired in the mission field. I will learn practical skills, methodology, and tactics. I will gain resources that will be beneficial to me and those I serve. I will meet other people in ministry who will remain friends even after the Forum.
What is your ministry?
I am the leader of the youth ministry at our local church, but this ministry extends to youth from other parts of the country through various events and camps. I teach at a youth leaders’ training school where I lead and help youth leaders from all over Slovakia to be more effective in their local ministries. I also act as the pastor at my church in the main pastor is not there.
What are your past leadership roles?
My first leadership role involved leading small groups at camps when I was a teenager, being a counselor and the leader of the counselors at various camps in Slovakia and Czech Republic. I later became the director of summer camps at our church. Starting in my second year in collage I would lead one or more young men in their walks with Christ as a mentor, encouraging and challenging them. Sometimes I would lead small groups as well.
Why should someone invest in your ministry?
I am eager to learn. I am young and the sooner I learn the longer will I be able to implement this knowledge in my ministry. I have a sphere of influence with hundreds of people in Slovakia and other central European countries due to my work with youth.
