What is your ministry?
I am a marriage and family therapist, working at a Christian non-profit called Preventis Association. We serve a population that deals with substance abuse. We offer counselling to clients and their families. We also have two prevention programmemes, one offering lessons on drug use and abuse in schools and throughout the community, and another mentoring programmeme for at-risk youth. I also have a small counselling practice on the side, seeing a variety of clients.
What do you hope to gain from participating?
I want to learn more about integrating faith into academic teaching, especially when most of the teaching we do here is in professional, secular settings. I would also like to learn more about how to help other people in academia develop their Christian scholarship. I would like to continue to do research on integrating faith into the practice of psychology, especially when it has to do with the problem of suffering.
What is your leadership role?
I currently work independently in my counselling private practice, and I also work part time for a Christian non-profit working in the area of drug use and abuse prevention. In my private practice, I provide counselling to individuals, couples, and families, and I am also involved in various research projects with my former professors from Wheaton College. I also provide support and supervision to the social workers involved in the mentoring programmeme for at-risk youth and work on developing training and materials in the area of drug use and drug abuse through the non-profit.
