Ministry Focus:

What is your ministry?

I am currently in a sabbatical year resting and looking for a new direction for my life. In my previous job and ministry that I left a year ago, I led evangelical religious education in schools in Spain for the whole country for seven years. It was a busy job with many demands and pressures. I am loving resting this year, spending time with my new husband and studying the Bible more. It has been wonderful and totally counter-cultural to have this break. I love the Bible and I attended seminary in the United States, where I got my Masters in Christian Studies (TEDS); I would love to teach at some point.

What do you hope to gain from participating?

I would like to have a better understanding of the different types of mentoring and to myself be transformed in a mentoring relationship this year. I have never been formally mentored and would very much like to have this experience. I think it will be valuable to me to have some guidelines to do the same for others in the future. God has placed in my heart the desire to help other women. Although I do not know the future, I am confident that mentoring is what I need to focus on in this stage of my life.

What is your leadership role?

As of right now I do not have a leadership role per se, as I have been on sabbatical in this season of my life. However, this year, as I have turned 40, I can see that I have more opportunities to disciple and influence younger ladies. These relationships come naturally; a lot of them are my long-term friends or women who need a mentor, and someone points them to me. Many come to me with questions and to look for inspiration in a way, especially because I got married later in life. I want to be better trained to mentor these women.

Why should someone invest in your ministry?

I have never been formally discipled on a one-to-one basis. I would love to know more about how this is done so that I can do so with others. I want to disciple women in relationships that are not contrived. A big concern I have is that I do not want to treat people that I mentor like “projects” and sadly we can often do this in the church.
