Christian Ministry—Pastoring/Church Planting

Forum Network:
Church Life, Leadership, and Planting

Ministry Focus:
Pastoring and/or Bible Teaching

Jan Lukl is the pastor of a church in Vlasim, Czech Republic. He is very gifted in personal evangelism and is a major participant in the Brethren Church’s church planting outreach into smaller towns.

When did you trust Christ?

When I was 21 and a student at the university, I became good friends with someone who was a Christian. He explained the Gospel to me and I invited Jesus into my life.

What have been the defining moments of your Christian walk?

Soon after I became a Christian, I went to the Evangelical Theological Seminary because I wanted to serve Jesus. I was not sure where He was going to use me, but during my studies I felt like I was being called to share the Gospel message with other people. I also learned a lot about church planting. These discoveries helped draw me closer to God.

Why do you want to attend the Forum?

I would love the opportunity to learn more about ways to do personal evangelism. I would like the chance to meet and converse with other church leaders in similar positions and with more experience. I want to learn more about the best ways to church plant and learn more about how to be an effective leader. The Forum has really helped me to have a clear vision and has helped me to be a better evangelist. But I have so much more to learn!
What is your ministry?

I realize that the more I am involved in church planting, the more I need to learn about leadership. When we set up a new church, I am responsible for leading that group of people. Also, when we set up a new church, I become the pastor for that church. My ministry involves helping new churches become grounded and develop as Christ-centered communities. I also preach every Sunday, and lead an elders group and men’s group meetings. As I gain more responsibilities, I would like the opportunity to learn more about how to be a good leader.
Why should someone invest in your ministry?

I am confident in the very important role of church planting, particularly in setting up small local churches throughout as many towns and villages that we can, as an instrument of spreading the Gospel and furthering God’s kingdom in this world. And I feel I need to learn more so that I can do this better.
