Peter Balogh is a lay preacher working with the Brethren Assembly in Miskolc, Hungary. He is also the author of “City Set on a Hill.”
When did you trust Christ?
I made the decision to trust and follow Christ when I was fifteen. At school, my English teacher was a model of the Christian life, and it was through his example that I turned to Jesus and chose to follow and serve Him.
What have been the defining moments of your Christian walk?
In my earlier years as a Christian, I was a member of several choirs with evangelistic ministries. I then joined the Brethren Assembly in Miskolc, where I was baptized. I began to participate in the Assembly’s services and soon after, the brothers and elders of the church encouraged me to pursue my work in the ministry. I began as a youth leader, and when my wife and I were married, she supported and helped me as I concentrated my work on preaching and working with other Brethren Assemblies. I studied theology at the Baptist Seminary in Budapest, where I finished my studies in 2014.
Why do you want to attend the Forum?
What is your ministry?
I am a preacher in the Brethren Assemblies in Hungary. I travel occasionally and visit assemblies. I coordinate our national website to collect Brethren Assemblies and relations. In my living area I also organize home Bible studies. Because of my job, my family and I moved away from our former city of Miskolc a few years ago. Even though we are further away, I am still actively involved in our home church, where I preach monthly and continue to develop mentoring relationships. I also attend several other Assemblies in our region; it is my goal to build up relationships amongst individuals from these different churches by visiting and networking among them. I am a leader at a Langham preaching group where pastors and preachers gather monthly from the region of my city of Szekesfehervar.
Why should someone invest in your ministry?
I am called to serve Christ and the Church in Hungary. With my regular preaching and ministry trips, my wife supports me from our home with our three children. Interest and investment in my ministry will allow me to support my family and continue to do God’s work in my country.
